Sama Sama 2023 Force Protection subject matter expert exchange
Marine Rotational Force - Southeast Asia
Oct. 5, 2023 | 1:00
U.S. Marines with Marine Rotational Force-Southeast Asia, I Marine Expeditionary Force, U.S. Navy Sailors with Command Squadron 7, U.S. 7th Fleet and members from the Armed Forces of the Philippines conduct a force protection subject matter expert exchange during Exercise Sama Sama 2023 on Fort Bonifacio in Manila, Luzon, Philippines, Oct. 3-4, 2023. The U.S. service members conducted a practical application of the force protection subject matter expert exchange to teach Department of the Navy regulations on use of force, escalation of force, personnel and vehicle searches and mechanical advantage control hold techniques. Sama Sama is a multilateral exercise including forces from the Philippines, United States, Australia, France, Japan, Canada, and the United Kingdom designed to promote regional security cooperation, enhance maritime interoperability, and maintain and strengthen maritime partnerships. MRF-SEA is a Marine Corps Forces Pacific operational model which involves planned exchanges with subject matter experts, promotes security goals with Allies and partners, and positions I MEF forces west of the International Date Line.
