Dr. Abe speaks about the Battle of Iwo Jima
3rd Marine Logistics Group
March 23, 2019 | 1:18
Dr. Toshiko Abe, State Minister for Foreign Affairs explains what the 74th Reunion of Honor symbolizes to the Japanese on Iwo To March 23, 2019. The Reunion of Honor ceremony is held annually to commemorate the heroism and sacrifices made by service members during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Lance Cpl. Isaiah Campbell)
It is very important to have this memorial ceremony here in Iwo Jima. Through this ceremony, we are able to understand the Security Alliance between Japan and U.S. was made from a lot of sacrifices. Also, we once again decide to make our bond even stronger for the sake of our region and international society.
Japan and U.S had a severe battle before, but the connection between two countries are very strong now. I’d like to say thank you to all the people that made a contribution to strengthen our connection. We’d like to contribute to international peace through bilateral connection between Japan and U.S."
