Chesty’s 119th: The Legend Lives On
1st Marine Division
June 26, 2017 | 0:50
Lt. Gen. Lewis Burwell “Chesty” Puller, the most decorated Marine in American history, was born on this day, June 26, in 1898. Inspired by the Marines of Belleau Wood, Chesty knew from a young age that he would be part of the military. In his lifetime, he demonstrated impeccable leadership and complete devotion to his Marines. He received numerous awards, including five Navy Crosses and a Distinguished Service. Every Marine alive today knows of at least one Chesty Puller story, and every Marine remembers the legend. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. Justin Huffty)
