GUATEMALA CITY—Marines from Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 467 unload a UH-1N Huey helicopter from a U. S. Air Force Reserve C-5 Galaxy.  Four UH-1N Huey helicopters from HMLA-467 and crews will be participating in Operation Martillo.  The crews are attached to U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South and will be operating on the west coast of Guatemala.  The crews and aircraft are attached to U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South for the duration of the operation and will be used for detection and monitoring.  Detachment Martillo, under operational control of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South, is comprised of a number of units from II Marine Expeditionary Force.  Operation Martillo is an operation led by Joint-Interagency Task Force-South, of the U.S. Southern Command, and is designed to help stem the flow of narcotics through Central America and its Pacific and Caribbean coasts by denying transnational criminal organizations littorals used for illicit trafficking.
