Video footage of the Japanese Military Headquarters Building, U.S. Army 323rd Infantry Monument and Lookout, U.S. Marine Corps Monument, Orange Beach and the surrounding areas in Peleliu, Republic of Palau, August 2023. The Battle of Peleliu, also known as Operation Stalemate II, was fought between the United States and Japan, from Sept. 15 to Nov. 27, 1944, on the island of Peleliu. The U.S. victory of Peleliu denied the Japanese a staging area for attacks on the U.S. fleet in the South Pacific during World War II. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Staff Sgt. Courtney G. White)
