This video package commemorates the history of the 3rd Marine Division landing on Iwo Jima on Feb. 24, 1945. The Battle of Iwo Jima, officially named Operation Detachment, lasted 36 days and claimed the lives of 1,131 and wounded another 4,438 of 3rd Marine Division Marines and Sailors. Video narrated by 1st Lt. James A. Cimino, the Headquarters Company Executive Officer. Historical footage captured by military cameramen during the battle of Iwo Jima.
