May 30, 2016 | 3:46
A platoon from the Nepalese Army executes the cordon and search training lane during Khaan Quest 2016 at Five Hills Training Area, Mongolia, May 30, 2016. This lane tests participants’ reactions to various scenarios including searching operations, coordination with local authorities, and cultural awareness through interaction with the local populace. This station is one of eleven training lanes conducted during the exercise that exposes participants to different scenarios they may face during UN Peacekeeping operations. Nepalese Army Captain KC, with Birendra Peace Operations Training Centre, and Pablo Pintos, subject matter expert with the Global Peace Operations Initiative, provide remarks about the cordon and search training being conducted. Khaan Quest is an annual, multinational peacekeeping operations exercise hosted by the Mongolian Armed Forces, co-sponsored by U.S. Pacific Command, and supported by U.S. Army Pacific and U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific. Khaan Quest, in its 14th iteration, is the capstone exercise for this year’s Global Peace Operations Initiative program and will focus on training activities to enhance international interoperability develop peacekeeping capabilities, build mil-to-mil relationships, and enhance military readiness.
